Eu·rope The sixth-largest continent, extending west from the Dardanelles, Black Sea, and Ural Mountains. It is technically a vast peninsula of the Eurasian land mass.
The first real bike trip. Starting point was Marseilles, France, doing a loop through the Provence region, climbing famous Mont Ventoux, deja-vu in Bedoin and down to the Cote d' Azur, Nice and Monaco. By ferry boat to Corsica, following some days through Toscana province, Italy and finally some days in Cantabira, Northern Spain.
Switzerland #1 - Around Lac Lemand
Starting in Basel, Germany and riding around Lac Lemand, Geneva.
Switzerland #2 - There may be snow over there
First serious mountain tour. Almost wanted too much, when I carried my bike through the snow of Susten-Pass.
Lisbon - Seville
I felt ready to leave Europe and check out Northern Africa. Started in Lisbon , Portugal, riding to Seville and further on to Algecieras to take the ferry boat to Marocco (there only bus and train).
Switzerland #3 - Pass Collection
Probably high point of the mountain-Pass-Collection-Area. In one day I managed to climb 3000 m on 3 different passes. Had one of the most emotional experiences at Oberalp.
Babes4U - The sweet pleasures of Spain
Starting in Montpellier, France, crossing the Pyreenees from East to West, taking a train to Jaen , Andalucia - with stop-over in Madrid - and biking a big circle through South Spain.
Switzerland #4 - The 27 turns of Stilfser Joch
Rode the first days with Carlo, who I had met earlier that year in Chile. Starting point was Basel and then up the mountains, including famous Stilfser Joch.
First time to try some dirt roads in the Alps, exploring beautiful Lake Como in Italy and the Italian Dolomite range.
Portugal - Around the Serra de Estrela
A short trip to get in form for Chile later that year. Started in Abrantes and up and around the Serra de Estrela.
Teide - Beaches and Europe's highest Volcano
Thought as a preparation for Chile later that year we did some easy trekking in the Sierra Nevada
Sierra de los Gredos - Culture and Nature
